Two weeks ago, I gave you guys a series of polls about which characters you want to see some stories about.
Some of the results were pretty surprising to me. For example, it was interesting to see that while A Rhapsody of Rapiers was the favourite novella, people mostly wanted to see more JE and Tetsuro. Which is especially funny since I’m so obsessed with JE and Tetsuro as roommates that I have a couple short stories about it.
I’m also thrilled that so many people wanted more Seb Bartok. I’m very slowly working on one novella about him, and editing another about his first Canadian ancestor that I impulsively wrote a couple years ago for Patreon supporters.
I wasn’t very surprised that people wanted to see some Rowan Oak, since he was always a fan favourite.
The big thing I’ve been working on the past couple weeks are the stories to support NJ Ember’s grandfather, and putting together the Heavy Metal Blood novella collection. Putting the collection together isn’t really that time-consuming on its own. What is taking up time is my decision to write a new short story per vampire. I already have the ones for Tetsuro and Jean-Étienne that Patreon supporters already read. I’m already half-way through one about Brys, and I’ve started one about Elyes. All at the same time.
I’m also trying to finish that short story collection I’ve been promising. There’s 10 stories right now, and most of them are actually quite long. I will go back to working on Heavy Metal Hunters soon, but I’m really trying to get you some in-the-meantime content. While I’d been hoping to get Hunters out later this year, it looks like it’ll have to be next year. That said, with this new challenge I’m doing, I guess you can expect a new short story from me every month.
(That’s wildly unchecked ADHD for you 😅)
Some things in my personal life have made long fiction hard for me lately. I really appreciate all the patience and support while I chase squirrels. These aren’t permanent circumstances, and my writing group has been a bit of a kick in the ass to keep moving. I just need a few more weeks to run around, and then I’ll get back on track. Promise
