This is still, to this day, my absolute favourite opening line ever.
If you haven’t seen it before, it comes from Gift of Shadows, book one in my Barrier Witch series. It’s a witch cop series with a similar vibe to Lost Girl and Grimm.
If you’re in the mood for a slightly darker urban fantasy series featuring a leading lady with some minor impulse control issues and a her sense of justice as strong as her fashion sense, hardcore found family, unique magic systems, and diverse folklore, then you’ll love this one. It’s my most popular series for a reason.
If this sounds like your sort of thing, then you’re in luck because, after many years, the complete series is out today! For only 5.99$, aka the price of just two books, you can get the entire five-book series plus one short story. We’re talking a thousand pages of supernatural suspense for less than the cost of what I spent on coffee this week. And as with all my books, you can also read it for free with KindleUnlimited.
The Special Crimes Division is an elite task force that handles magic and parahuman related crimes. Witch and detective Fairuz Arshad, welcomes the change from the brutal demands of Homicide.
Her superiors have other ideas.
This urban fantasy set contains the first five books of the Barrier Witch series, and the Gift of Carols short story.
And if you’ve already read the whole series, please consider sharing it with your friends! Ratings and reviews are also very appreciated, since it helps other people decide to give a series a shot.
I’m still hard at work on the next instalment of Heavy Metal Hunters series, but Fairuz and her team have not been forgotten. I’ve always said I intend to return to that universe, and I still do. In fact, I just jotted down a couple ideas in my notebook beside me before I go back to finishing this scene.
Unrelated, I’ve been watching the live action OnePiece. I’m not sure how faithful it is to the original, but I’ve really been enjoying it. It’s a nice change of pace from my horror marathons.
It’s been a slow year for me writing-wise, but there’s still a lot more to come.
