After a brief period of unplanned radio silence, I am back! Honestly, I got so head-down in re-reading the first three Heavy Metal Hunters books to make a fully comprehensive story bible that I completely forgot about the entire month of March. I was so on top of it that I actually got ahead of schedule and wrapped up edits on book 4! Which means that I am very much on track to have the next three books in the series ready for proofreading by the end of June, if not sooner.
Now I just have to decide on titles and what I want the covers to look like…
If you’ve read Heavy Metal Hunters (which I think you should but I might be biased), you might remember that Hale and his father don’t exactly have the best relationship. It had always been a little strained, and Hale’s years of rampant alcoholism and bridge burning didn’t exactly help.
You might remember that at the end of A Harmony of Hel, they started making a very awkward attempt at patching it up. This continues through the rest of the series, which also results in Hale’s father finding out about Hale’s side-gig as a draug and vampire hunter.
Reading through this has me thinking about my own dad, who I don’t get to see nearly as often since I moved away. The thing about him is that he always pushes me to be my best, and then go two steps further. Every single time I doubt myself, he’s there to kick me in the ass. Even though he really doesn’t understand fiction, especially fantasy, he’s actually a bit part of why I’m such a persistent writer.
(Good is subjective, but I think it’s safe to call myself persistent.)
I’m on track to finish reviewing Hunters 5 by the May long weekend. I’ll be taking a week off for a work conference, and then getting into number 6.
